It can also be referred to as gay marriage (marriage between men) or lesbian marriage (marriage between women). According to Cahill and Sean, same-sex marriage question includes everything from sexual freedom to emancipation and civil right (Cahill and Sean, 2004).Same-sex marriages have been recognized in many countries but only exist as a secret. The secrecy is because same-sex marriage, in many cultures and traditions is considered a bizarre union.A rise in same-sex marriages has been recorded in recent times since the first laws facilitating the same were ordained during the earlier decades of the twenty-first century. The recognition of the laws affects many areas including issues relating to human rights and the society as a whole. In addition, religious issues and political issues are also affected in many nations across the globe. Issues continue to arise, and many debates are often held over whether same-sex marriage should be legalized, or the marriage partners should be allowed to hold a different status or should be denied such rights.Same-sex marriage is now legalized in many countries. In July, 2013, Queen Elizabeth II cleared the way for same-sex marriage in Britain after approving a bill passed by Parliament. In The same year, Uruguayà ¢Ã¢â ¬s parliament also voted to become the second country in Latin America to recognize same-sex marriage regardless of a very strong opposition from Catholic Church. Other countries that have legalized same-sex marriage include; Wales, New Zealand, several states of America, South Africa, among others. In many countries, more so in Africa, social issues play a big role in determining the fate of political parties and their leaders. Most African countries are instinctively conservative and view same-sex marriage as ungodly union that will only derogate their cultural values (Andersen and Ellen, 2005). Leaders in countries such as Uganda, Kenya, and South Africa have always used the same-sex marriage issue to fight their opponents who tend to support the union. In 2006 after the legalization of the union, the opposition, African Christian Democracy Party (ACDP) organized a demonstration against the law.Socially, same-sex marriage has a lot to do with how people relate to each other. This union is a social problem because various people have diverse opinions about this same-sex marriage. Marotta and Toby think differently. They argue that emotionally, marriage is characterized by a kind of commitment that is rare even among heterosexuals. Extending the marriage to homosexuals does not need to dilute the unique nature of that commitment (Marotta and Toby, 2010). Thus, same-sex marriage is a social problem. This union has also brought many issues as far as human and civil rights are concerned. It has been learned that with time, many countries a... Same Sex Marriages Essay - 550 Words Same Sex Marriages (Essay Sample) Content: Same Sex MarriageName:Institution:Same Sex MarriageSame sex marriage refers to marriage between two persons, and who are of a similar biological sex. Same sex marriage is called gay marriage for marriage between two male partners and lesbianism for marriage between two female partners. In the 20th and 21st centuries, several same sex unions have been legalized (Zimmerman, 2003; Sullivan Jackson, 2001). Same-sex marriage has been legalized in eight European countries such as Iceland, Belgium, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Norway. The legalization process is currently ongoing in countries such as France, Finland, Luxembourg, and the United Kingdom. Legislators in the United Kingdom have expressed their supportive intentions toward same sex marriage.People have different opinions, beliefs, and reasoning in regard to same sex marriages. Some people believe that God made a man and a woman so that they could join hands and say their vows in the rig ht manner. It is thus expected that a man is for a woman, and a woman is for a man. However, some states have legalized marriage between same sex partners. There are various reasons why some people call for legalization of the same sex marriages. To start with, people suggest that we are all sinful in nature and that we have a weakness to sin in various ways. People express their sins in one way or another but differ among people. Some people find homosexuality as one of the fair and balanced way to express their sinful character (Wolfson, 2004). Secondly, people argue that marriage is one of the basic human rights, and where people can make personalized choices. In this case, the state should not interfere with same gender marriages (Meezan Rauch, 2005). Thirdly, through ending discrimination, it is easy to enhance human spirit and thus resulting to better lives. From a personal opinion, I would refute the three reasons given in support of the same sex marriages. It is unjust to ta ke advantage of the grace of God, by claiming that human beings are sinful in nature. We are supposed to glorify God and follow His will by doing rightful actions. As such, we should not do what we wish because we perceive it to be right. Instead, we should exercise our rights to rightful marriages, a marriage between people of different sexes. According to the Laws of God, marriage is holy and that it should not be violated. Secondly, people claim that they are subjected to discrimination through banning of the same sex marriage (Castle, 2003). Illegalizing a lesbian and gay marriage is not any form of discrimination. In religious countries, same sex marriage is not acceptable with God and the religious customs. Finally, same sex marriage violates traditions and cannot be used as a way of procreating. As such, same sex marriage should be discouraged in all ways. From a logical viewpoint, it would be better for a child to have a mother and a father than two fathers or two mothers. Di fferent people hold to different opinions when it comes to same sex marriages. However, God made man and woman so that they would join and say vows in a rightful way. Thus, same sex marriage seems odd and should not be accepted (Baker, 2010; Fredrick, 2014). The rightful marriage is whereby a man is for a woman, and the woman is for a man.In conclusion, same sex marriage refers to a union of two people of the same gender in a ...
